Injection Molding

Home > Capabilities > Injection Molding

Master Tool Company is a precision custom injection molder.
Our machine presses range from 30 ton to 500 ton capacity.

We offer molding technologies such as:

Over-Molding
Insert-Molding
Family/Hetero Molding

Automated injection molding equipment is utilized at our facility to ensure the same amount of material gets introduced to the mold each cycle.

We specialize in processing a variety of materials, including:

  • Engineering grade resins
  • Food grade FDA approved resins
  • Resins with glass fibers
  • High Temp materials such as PPA, PA66 – HS, etc.

After production runs, molds are inspected, cleaned, and maintained in our fully equipped tooling room at no cost to our customers.

What is Injection Molding?

What is Injection Molding?

Injection molding is a widely used manufacturing process for producing plastic parts by injecting molten plastic into a carefully designed mold. This versatile technique allows for the creation of a wide range of products with high precision, consistency, and efficiency.

Insert-Molding

Insert molding is a specialized injection molding process where a pre-formed insert, typically made of metal or another plastic, is placed into the mold. Molten plastic is then injected around the insert, creating a strong bond between the insert and the surrounding plastic. This technique is particularly useful for adding strength, functionality, or aesthetic features to the molded part.

Injection Molding

Key Advantages of Insert Molding

Enhanced Strength

The molded part benefits from the added strength of the inserted material, making it suitable for applications with increased mechanical requirements.

Reduced Assembly Steps

The molded part benefits from the added strength of the inserted material, making it suitable for applications with increased mechanical requirements.

Cost Efficiency

By combining multiple materials or components into one mold, insert molding can result in cost savings compared to traditional assembly methods.

Over-Molding

Over molding, also known as two-shot molding, involves the injection of different materials or colors onto a single component in two or more stages. This technique allows for the creation of products with a soft-touch grip, multiple textures, or a combination of rigid and flexible materials.

Over Molding

Key Advantages of Over-Molding

Improved Functionality

By combining materials with different properties, over-molding allows for the creation of products with enhanced functionality, such as improved grip or impact resistance.

Enhanced Aesthetics and Ergonomics

Over-molding enables the integration of different materials, textures, and colors, enhancing the visual appeal and ergonomic qualities of the final product.

Reduced Assembly

Similar to insert molding, over-molding reduces the need for additional assembly steps, leading to increased efficiency and cost savings.

Family/Hetero Cavity Molding

Family molding involves the production of multiple parts simultaneously within a single mold. Hetero cavity molding extends this concept by allowing for the production of different parts in the same mold, each requiring different materials or colors. This approach is particularly useful for manufacturing complex assemblies in a single molding cycle.

Family/Hetero Cavity Molding

Key Advantages of Family Molding

Material Variety

Different materials or colors can be used for each cavity, allowing for the creation of diverse products in the same molding process.

Efficient Batch Production

Multiple parts or components can be produced in a single cycle, optimizing production efficiency and reducing lead times.

Cost Savings

Family and hetero cavity molding contribute to cost savings by minimizing tooling and setup costs associated with producing each component separately.
